Pre-Production Paperwork Evaluation

Production Schedule
The first sheet i had to complete was my production schedule. It was very important that i got this done first. The reason this was important was because it kept me organized, it showed me what sheets i needed to complete and when they needed to be completed. When it came to starting my production it was helpful because i had already known that i had everything finnished. So therefore it was easy just to think about getting the production done.

Treatment Package
My treatment package contained such things as the name of my music video, the characters and the synopsis. Its important to know about the synopsis of my music video. Especially if the music video has a strong narrative. People need to get an idea of that the music video is about before they see it. I wanted people to understand it as it's harder to understand when it's moving images.

Storyboards
My storyboard was one of the most important part of my pre-production. It was helpful to me because i could section my music video into seperate shots. It was easy to find each scene and it was easier to shoot each shot because it was all in order. For my benefit i added how long each shot had to last. This was optional but it helped me a lot structuring my scenes so im pleased i ended up doing that.

Other Sheets
Performer release - I had to get my friend's permission to star in my music video by him signing a performer release sheet. This was proof that i asked him if he would participate in my music video. So its important i have the proof.
Risk assessment - On other peoples behalf i filled in a risk assessment sheet so that my crew could be informed about any risks that may happen on set. This is important that these issues are raised because its my responsibility if someone is hurt and i havent raised an issue.
Equiptment Booking Form - The equiptment booking form informed the technitions that i had reserved a camera kit. If i hadn't of filled out a booking form i would of not been able to take out kit. So it was important that this was completed.
Call Sheet -  Out of all these sheets the call sheet was the most important. Call sheets are important because people needed to know what time they would need to be there and where abouts. It also has to show them everyone's number that is working on the project so therefore everyone can have contact with eachother. It also showed them where they could accsess different facilities such as toilet, food cafes etc. So therefore this was very important to have proof of. For example if someone couldnt make it you could get in contact with

Videos.

I looked at numourous Lady gaga videos. Even though the song i chose is a Lady gaga song, the song i think is very unique compared to her others and i couldnt really find a video of hers that matched the song. This is why i looked at other artists that are a comparisson to her.

Bjork's Hidden Place shows lots of emotion through the up close camera shots of Bjork's face and the lyrics of the song, The way emotion is shown in Bjork's song helped me be able to put my own emotion accross in my music video.

I got the whole idea about having my video in black and white from Madonna's Vogue. It's very popular for its beauty and its black and white effects. I always knew i was going to do my music video in black and white because i knew it was going to fit in with the concept and the song of my music video, however Madonna's Vogue also helped me think of the compoenets i needed in my music video to make it looks interesting, instead of just having tons of shots in black and white.

Reflection of Pre-Production

Looking back on my Pre-Production it took a while to complete but i think i did it to the best of my standard. I think most of my paperwork was done well, I made sure i had all of it completed on time. Im quite good at being organized so i found it quite easy to get everything completed.

However I found a couple of things hard about completeting pre production. Firstly the storyboard was quite difficult to complete. I maganaged to make it as discriptive as possible but i made it quite time consuming for myself because i wanted to get the times of each shot written on each box so i could understand which shot needs to be where when it comes to editing. But overall i enjoyed creating my pre production folder and i cant wait to film!!

My Chosen Location

My location chosen was the Pop Socket, a little alleyway next to the grave yard in Brize Norton, The reason i have chosen this location is because it's quite secluded and quiet and desserted and this fits in with the style and theme of my music video.

Research: Director&Target Audience

Jonas Akerlund

Jonas Akerlund is a famous director that has directed a few of Lady Gagas music videos, for example ‘Paparazzi’ and ‘Telephone’. Coincidently he directed videos for both Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera (For Britney Spears ‘Hold It Against Me’ and for Christina Aguilera ‘Beautiful’) However a lot of his music videos are known for being quite surreal and outrageous,  one of them being The Prodigy’s ‘Smack My Bitch Up’ which got banned on MTV for it’s misogyny. But from this we can see that Akerlund isn’t afraid to go far with his music videos as they are overly controversial.

Target Audience for Lady Gaga.
Lady Gaga attracts many people, However in my opinion I would say her primary audience are females between the ages of 14/15 to 30’s. The way Lady Gaga performs is for a much mature audience, as well as her songs as they contain content that younger girls might not understand. However Lady Gagas music is still very young and upbeat so therefore middle age people  audience may not understand her appearance or her view of the things she relates to in her music.

Research: Genre Comparrisons

Bjork
Muisc wise Bjork is different however There sense of performance can be linked.  There fashion sense is also similar  too. Overall Bjork and Lady Gaga share a trait of creativity and therefore is seen throughout all of their performances. Bjorks Fashion sense on a everyday Basis and on her performances. Are fairly similar.

Madonna

Lady Gaga has been compared to Madonna throughout her career. Some of her songs sound quite similar to Madonna’s. Her use of costumes is one part of the music video that is similar to Lady Gaga, although not extreme they signify Madonna. Just like Lady Gaga’s signify her. This song is Similar to Lady Gaga’s ‘Government Hooker.’

Madonna’s song ‘Express Yourself’ has similar lyrics to some of Lady Gaga’s songs about being a ‘free woman’ , saying that you don’t need to be ‘second best’ to any guy.The most interesting music  video from Madonna  is ‘Justify My Love’, The video was very controversial, being banned on the MTV for  it’s sexual content. The reason it’s similar to Lady Gaga is that it proves that they are both not afraid to do anything to get a point across in their songs.

Britney Spears

Britney Spears is not a similar artist however some of her music videos can be linked to Lady
Gaga, one of the obvious ones being Toxic.
Use of various costumes  throughout the video, The infamous one being the diamond suit.

Research: Indentifying.

Identifying theme of Song.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFwmKL5OL-Q
The song I am going to be using for my music video is Lady Gaga’s Bloody
Mary. There are two main themes from the music video that are easily
recognizable. The first theme is religion and the second theme is love and
romance. They are easily seen throughout the lyrics. The romance side of it
connects to the narrative, and is about Gaga talking about how she will
forgive even if someone has done wrong. The song is almost a plea to the
man she is talking to. The song  gives us the impression that she’s making
herself worthless but this is hidden by the lyrics of the song which makes it
sound beautiful.  The song gives off a mood of horror and it has quite haunting elements to it, for example the chants of monks etc.

The Album
The song comes from the album ‘Born This Way’. The has the narrative of being who you are, an
not being afraid of this, hence the title of the album. However Lady Gaga adds lots of references
to religion and love (which is most of the songs she is seemingly begging for.)

Lady Gagas album overall is full of pop music however to create different moods, Lady gaga has
added other elements such as hip hop beats, guitars and opera, from this it helps the songs on the
album to become individual and less expressionless, Lady Gaga described the album as:  A
marriage of electronic music with major, epic, dare I even say, metal or rock 'n' roll, pop,
anthemic style melodies with really sledge-hammering dance beats.” – Source

Artist
Lady  Gagas performances are always surreal and gives a sense of fantasy.  Her performance
normally consist of  her obnoxious outfits and dance moves. This is how she appeals people and her
performances show her creativity.
The way she performs connects to how her music videos are viewed and set out.  Her videos are
normally sung about reality but in mostly all previous videos that go along with this album she
adds a fantasy to it that comes through her fashion and her emotion  that comes through.
Lady Gaga is known for her fashion sense as it’s extremely bizarre. Some of her outfits possibly
have hidden meanings, However most of them are her way of telling her audience how creative
she feels she is and to put across different moods.
